New London — Members of the Muslim community in the area will serve lunch to the needy Saturday at the Parish Hall, 66 Union St., the state Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT) and the Islamic Center of New London (ICNL) announced Friday.

"The Muslim community is committed to doing its share and helping those in need," said Anyssa Dhaouadi, director of youth affairs at CAIR-CT. "Born and raised in New London, I'm part of the fabric of this community and hunger does not know color, ethnicity, or religion."

Dhaouadi attends the Science and Technology Magnet High School in New London, according to a release from CAIR-CT.

"We want to lead by example and hope we can make a difference in someone's life even for one day," said Bayan Mansour, president of the ICNL youth group. Mansour is a senior at Robert E. Fitch High School in Groton and lives in Mystic.

The Islamic Center of New London is at 16 Fort St. in Groton.
